Just FYI: The Bourbon Pecan Pie at Caddo Outdoors Bait & Tackle is an Absolute Game Changer

Blog

Caddo Outdoors Bait & Tackle is a small, home-style café in the heart of Oil City, Louisiana.

The décor is just as welcoming as the owners, Chris and Emily Brown. In 2014, they jumped at the opportunity to start a new business venture in the rural areas of Caddo Parish. Locals frequent the restaurant for lunch and leisure to grab fishing bait and a bite to eat. This restaurant is known around the area for their fried fish, bulky burgers and decadent pie selection.

We take pride in making complete strangers feel right at home. Every day is an adventure when you meet a lot of people and make strong connections through good food and warm conversations. Our customers are so excited about us bringing back the bourbon pecan pie this season,” said Emily.

When I learned about their legendary bourbon pecan pie, I was adamant about making the drive to try it for myself.

When I arrived, Emily prepared a slice just for me. This bourbon pecan pie is layered with a thick coat of crunchy, glazed, pecans covering a soft-baked, bourbon pie filing all nestled inside a sturdy crust. The Browns placed my slice of pie on a white saucer speckled with pecan crumbs and topped it off with a generous amount of whipped cream. I wasted no time sinking my fork into that triangle of delectableness. It’s amazing how three different textured layers can work so well together to produce one of the most popular holiday desserts in the South. I took in a hint of sweet bourbon with each bite, and I was sold. This was for sure the best slice of pie I’ve ever eaten. If you’re a real pie lover, you’ll want to hit the road for this one.

Unfortunately, you’ll need to hurry in to try a slice because the Browns recently announced the closing of Caddo Outdoors Bait & Tackle.

They project the restaurant will remain open until mid-December. You have less than six weeks to get a bourbon pecan pie slice and everything nice. The operating hours have shifted to 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. Caddo Outdoors Bait and Tackle is less than 30 minutes from downtown Shreveport with such a scenic drive this time of year. The route is a straight shot from Spring Street onto Highway 1 North. Easy as pie.
