If you are looking to get away from it all, but not too far, then escape to the Great Outdoors at Lake Claiborne State Park. The park has something for everyone to enjoy. Let’s start with the park’s namesake, the 6,400-acre Lake Claiborne.
Lake Claiborne is truly a Sportsman’s Paradise. Anglers of all skill levels can enjoy a day on the lake fishing for largemouth bass, bream, crappie and more. Load up your tackle with some buddies and spend a day reeling them in. Later, you can tell all the fish tales you want about “the one that got away.” We won’t tell.
Maybe you enjoy a day on the water without things getting, well, fishy. Lake Claiborne is perfect for some fast-paced fun waterskiing. Or slow down and soak up the beauty of the lake by kayaking or canoeing. Or perhaps you love the feel of sand between your toes, or lying in the sun soaking up some rays? Then the beach at Lake Claiborne State Park is the perfect spot for you. Enjoy a swim in the clear, clean water in a beautiful inlet — your own private getaway for some fun in the sun.
But there’s so much more to Lake Claiborne State Park than the lake. Mother Nature’s beauty is on full display in the woods and from the scenic vistas throughout the park. Discover the birds and wildlife that make the park their home as you hike more than 12 miles of scenic trails. Guided hikes are also available if you prefer.
Lake Claiborne State Park is also home to Louisiana’s top two disc-golf courses. Those looking for a challenge can try their hand at the White Tail course, which measures 7,391 feet, winding through the park’s beautiful campgrounds. For faster play, the Dogwood course is 5,281 feet. Both courses begin and end at the fee station, where disc rental is available.
Visitors don’t have to limit themselves to a day trip, either. Lake Claiborne State Park has options from primitive camping to glamping for those wanting to extend their stay. For really roughing it, Lake Claiborne State Park has primitive tent sites, with or without power and water. If you’re traveling on the Boom or Bust Byway in your RV, park it for a while and commune with nature. Or reserve a cabin for up to eight family members and friends and enjoy all the park has to offer.
You’re already an adventurer, choosing to travel the highways and byways instead of living life in the fast lane. Go explore one of Louisiana’s natural gems at Lake Claiborne State Park. Visit the park’s website to learn more.
