A Wildflower Journey along Northwest Louisiana

America’s scenic highways still offer the chance to break free from the hustle and bustle of society and enjoy life at a slower pace. Nestled somewhere peaceful in Northwest Louisiana, the Boom or Bust Byway does just that.

The Byway winds its way through charming smaller towns, including Vivian, Gillam, Plain Dealing, and Sarepta. Upon stopping in any of these places along the way, you can find charming cafes, interesting antique shops, and the friendliest people you will ever meet.

However, as they say, getting there is half the fun, especially during wildflower season. That’s when you could call it the Bloom or Bust Byway.

The roadside along the byway is Mother Nature’s canvas. Here, her palette abounds with rich reds, pretty purples, whimsical whites, and more that brighten the way.

Moreover, finding a spot to safely pull off the road, especially near the Red River or any of the other waterways along the byway, allows you to stroll through a living masterpiece of color. Be sure to take your camera along; you’ll definitely want to capture and preserve the moment.

Ultimately, on the Boom or Bust Byway, it’s more than acceptable to take your eyes off the road for a second and go a little wild for wildflowers. If you can’t make it during wildflower season, be sure to check back in June for the annual Sunflower festival in Gilliam, LA.
