With 136 miles of rolling hills, pine forest, bayous, and lakes, the Boom or Bust Byway is a camper’s paradise. If you find yourself camping the Byway, you definitely won’t have a shortage of places to stay. Whether you are ruffing it in a tent or bringing an RV, the Byway has options to suite your needs. Here are the best spots to camp on the Byway.

Lake Claiborne State Park

Located just outside of Homer, Louisiana, Lake Claiborne State Park is an outdoor lover’s paradise. The park has 10 cabins, 89 campsites, and 10 glamping tents with bathrooms and showers located around the park. A 6,400-acre lake is ideal for fishing, kayaking, or swimming. If you want to try out kayaking or forgot yours, they even rent out kayaks and boats. Lake Claiborne State Park also has 11 miles of walking trails, two 18-basket disc golf courses that are the #1 and #2 ranked disc golf courses in the state. If that isn’t enough, the park offers nature tours regularly.

Caney Lake Recreation Area

Caney Lake is located north of Minden, Louisiana and situated in Kisatchie National Forest, Louisiana’s only national forest. Beaver Dam Campground is on the shore of Upper Caney Lake and offers over 20 camping sites with a mixture of tent and RV sites. The campground offers electrical hookups, water hookups, bathrooms, and showers. With over 6 miles of hiking and biking around the lake, the Sugar Cane National Recreation Trail is very scenic.

Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area

Cypress Black Bayou is located north of Bossier City in Benton, Louisiana, on Cypress Bayou Reservoir. The 430 acre park offers over 70 RV sites and 23 of those come with full hookups. Cypress Black Bayou has a zoo and nature center with nature trails to explore the outdoors. The man-made beach is great for swimming and fisherman love cruising the bayou for the next big catch.

Bayou Bodcau

Located north of Haughton, Louisiana, in Bellevue, Bayou Bodcau has more over 33,500 acres open to the public. Tom Merrill Recreation Area, located downstream of Bayou Bodcau Dam, offers over 19 tent and RV sites with electric and water hookups. The area also has a playground, bathrooms and showers. With hiking trails, kayaking, fishing, and plenty of nature to enjoy, Bodcau offers a rich experience.

Earl G. Williamson Park

This 40-acre park located in Oil City, Louisiana, has a public boat launch, restrooms, showers, campsites with electric and water hookups, picnic areas, playgrounds, ball fields, tennis courts, disc golf, and a swimming area. If that wasn’t enough, Caddo lake is an excellent fishing spot.
