Someone once said, “A sunset is the best opportunity to reset.” I couldn’t agree with them more. Right now, the world has taken an unconventional turn due to the global pandemic, but it only gives us all a chance to slow down and take in the colorful byway skies. The Boom or Bust Byway is a 136-mile rural route than travels through Louisiana’s Caddo, Bossier, Webster and Claiborne parishes. This path has wide open farmland, endless bodies of water, and miles of lush trees that create a picturesque base for a byway sunset no matter the season. Here’s a few images captured by byway locals:
You can experience a captivating sunset over Caddo Lake from Oil City, Mooringsport, and some areas near Vivian. This lake rests on the Louisiana and Texas border with more than 25,000 acres of water sprawled across both states, but nothing beats the sun peeking over the Spanish moss trees and reflecting onto the rippled waters.

With a population of approximately 300, Hosston is considered a village in Caddo Parish. If you’re in the right place at the right time, the sun pierces the blues skies and illuminates the byway like a flash light.

Benton is a rural development right outside of Bossier City with quiet fishing holes, country eats, and hunting grounds filled with big game and more. Benton produces bold sunsets with thick, enchanting sunrays.

Bodcau Wildlife Management Area
Bodcau Wildlife Management Area stretches from Minden to the Arkansas state line, and it’s filled with wildlife, such as deer, alligators, turkey and more. The sunsets on this reservoir coats the skies with navy blue clouds and bright orange shades.

Located near Homer, Louisiana, Lake Claiborne is a reservoir with a popular man-made fishing area with over 6,000 acres of lake water. If your favorite sunsets are the deep purples and light pinks, plan a road trip to Lake Claiborne this weekend!
