Red River Crossroads Historical & Cultural Association – Annual Meeting & Local History Program

This program will be presented by Jameel Damlouji. Jameel will discuss two historical topics, including bottle collecting identification with local bottle production history; and archeology from the Conley site on Loggy Bayou (located South of Shreveport) including the work involved to process, log and identify artifacts on this 8000 year old civilization.

Jameel has a Biological Sciences degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He has collected bottles all his life and now specializes in old inkwells called “Teakettle Inks.” Jameel catalogues collections for the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum and provides age estimates for glass found in archeological sites. He helped to re-start the local chapter of the Louisiana Archeology Society, has served as President, and continues to serve on the Board. He has worked closely with Jeff Girard, a retired State Archeologist, on the dugout canoe project. Presently, he is leading the recovery and processing salvaged materials from the Conley site. Jameel was awarded the “Avocational Archeologist of the Year Award” for 2023 at the recent Louisiana Archeological Conference.

Guests are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
